At the pre-term parliamentary election in March 2014, the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) became the first post-communist-era party to win an absolute majority. It will dominate the political scene in 2015-19.
Real GDP is estimated to have contracted by 1.8% in 2014, after growing by 2.6% in 2013, as the economic impact of the May floods compounded the negative effects of fiscal consolidation and a high year-earlier base.
Following an estimated current-account deficit equivalent to 6.4% of GDP in 2014, we forecast average annual deficits of around 4% of GDP in 2015-19.
