Healthcare expenditure in Australia continues to grow, in line with the ageing of the population, advances in medical technology and treatments, and the public's increasing awareness of health-related issues.
Expenditure on healthcare stood at an estimated US$7,338 per head in 2013. Health spending in the year was equivalent to an estimated 114% of GDP, and two-thirds of such expenditure was from public sources, according to estimates by a UK-based research company, Espicom.
