摘要
The Economist Intelligence Unit expects healthcare spending to rise sharply in US dollar terms in the forecast period, from an estimated US$i2.3bn in 2013 to US$2i.8bn in 2018, representing an increase of 12.1% a year on average. In local-currency terms, growth will be even fester, at an average of 14.2% a year. This partly reflects our expectation of strong GDP growth, rising wages and high inflation, as well as rising demand for healthcare services. Population growth of around 1% a year means that spending per head will rise that much more slowly.
Healthcare expenditure will rise steadily as a proportion of GDP in the next five years, from an estimated 7.2% in 2013 to 7.4% in 2018. Vietnam spends a larger proportion of its GDP on healthcare than the Philippines (4.6% of GDP), Malaysia (4.4%), Thailand (3.3%) and Indonesia (2.8%).
Consumers will devote greater resources to improving healthcare standards in 2014-18, in line with rising average incomes and a growing awareness of medical problems and available treatments. Meanwhile, the government will continue to focus on providing greater access to health insurance, which in 2012 covered around 64% of the population.
