The Economist Intelligence Unit expects the religiously conservative ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and its former prime minister and now president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, to continue to dominate the political scene.
The sharp fall in global energy prices should help to ease inflationary pressures, at least in the short term. But currency weakness will keep consumer price inflation well above the official year-end target of 5% for some time.
The current-account deficit is forecast to narrow in 2015 as a result of stronger export growth and lower global oil prices. We expect it to widen moderately from 2016 as domestic demand growth gathers pace and oil prices pick up.
