Poland's retail market stayed remarkably buoyant throughout the euro zone crisis,which significantly undermined European consumer confidence and spending patterns,but slowed in 2012-13.The market showed signs of recovery in 2014,with growth of 2.7%recorded,although Polish consumption was affected to some extent by the impact of the EU's confrontation with
Russia over Ukraine,which resulted in an exchange of economic sanctions in
Jub Retail sales growth will remain robust from 2015 as an improvement in external conditions gradually feeds through to increased household incomes. Real GDP grew by 3-3%in 2014.The Economist Intelligence Unit forecasts that real GDP growth will average 3.5%in 2015—19,while retail sales volumes will average 4%per year in 2015-19 as global and domestic economies continue to recover. Spending on food,beverages and tobacco amounted to an estimated 24.5%of total household spending in 2014,which is higher than in neighbouring EU countries.The share of household spending devoted to food,beverages and tobacco is forecast to fall gradually,to 23.4%in 2019.
