French spending on healthcare is estimated at 12.1% of GDP in 2013. This share is higher than in any other EU country, but well below that in the US (18% in 2013). The proportion is expected to fell slightly in 2014-18.
The Economist Intelligence Unit expects annual healthcare expenditure per head to rise by 04% on average in US dollar terms (1.5% in euro terms) during 2014-18, to US$5,377 in 2018. This puts France among the top ten countries in the world for spending per head. As the population is also increasing, this equates to annual average growth in total healthcare spending of 0.9% in US dollar terms or 2% in euro terms.
