Threats to political stability will remain low in 2015-16. However, social tensions are likely to grow, as public disappointment with the president, Macky Sall, will rise as he seeks to impose fiscal austerity.
With the mining sector, as well as industrial and agricultural output, growing and public works picking up, The Economist Intelligence Unit expects real GDP to grow from an estimated 4.4% in 2014 to an average of 5% in 2015-19.
The current-account deficit will narrow from an estimated 9.9% of GDP in 2014 to an average of 6.6% of GDP in 2015-19, reflecting rising exports from the mining and industrial sector.
