摘要
The overall level of energy consumption in Austria has increased at a relatively modest pace over the past decade. In 2013 total primary energy consumption was an estimated 32.8m tonnes oil equivalent (mtoe). The Economist Intelligence Unit expects that energy consumption will rise very modestly over the forecast period (2014-20), at an average of only 0.6% per year, to 34.2 mtoe by 2020.
Austria ranks near the middle of European energy consumers. The country has substantial hydropower resources (which combined with other renewables can provide around two-thirds of its electricity requirements), as well as modest domestic oil and natural gas resources. Production from domestic fields has declined in recent decades, but in 2005 significant natural gas reserves were discovered in the Vienna Basin. Austria imports around 60% of its energy raw material needs, mostly in the form of crude oil, diesel fuel and natural gas.
