摘要
Switzerland is a net energy importer and relies on imports for over half of its energy needs. The import requirement is largely for oil products, natural gas and coal as Switzerland is mostly self-sufficient in electricity production, but does not possess any fossil fuel resources.
Five nuclear power stations currently contribute around 40% on average to electricity production, but the government and parliament have decided to phase out all nuclear energy production by 2050, and in the long term, new electricity sources will need to be secured.
One major, entirely indigenous source of energy generation is hydropower, which contributes substantially to meeting the country's electricity demand.
Energy demand is forecast to grow gradually over the forecast period (2014-20). The moderate growth rate should help the government to meet some of its energy and emissions commitments.
