摘要
Vietnam's car market is bouncing back following a protracted period of economic instability. Sales of passenger cars, sports utility vehicles (SUVs), and multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) were up by 33% in year-on-year terms, to 67,578 in January-November 2014, from 50,733 in January-November 2013, according to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers' Association (VAMA). Key factors have been faster economic growth, lower interest rates, and a cut in car registration fees from 15% to 10% in Ho Chi Minh City, the country's commercial centre.
The Economist Intelligence Unit expects rising incomes to lead to a sustained expansion in the market, with a shift away from motorcycles as the primary means of transport. We project brisk growth in 2015-19 for passenger-car sales, helped by a phasing out of tariffs on imported cars under the Association of South-east Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) free-trade agreements.
