摘要

Four operators provide mobile communications services in Kazakhstan: Kcell, the market leader, which is owned by Sweden's TeliaSonera; Kar Tel (operating under the K-Mobile and Beeline trademarks), owned by Russia's Vimpelcom; Swedish Tele2; and Kazakhtelecom, which owns Altel.
Mobile telephony has experienced rapid expansion in Kazakhstan. There were an estimated 179.7 mobile subscriptions per 100 people in 2013, compared with 105.3 in 2009. Mobile subscriptions have reached saturation and were actually down slightly year on year in the first quarter of 2014 as mobile phone companies deleted dormant accounts. The number of mobile phone subscriptions is therefore likely to grow more slowly over the forecast period.
As personal computers (PCs) remain costly and access to Internet cafes restricted to urban centres, web-enabled mobile telephones provide the primary means for individuals to go online.
