China's energy demand has soared as a result of strong economic growth．
In 2009 the country overtook the US tO become the world's largest consumer of energy．The Economist Intelligence Unit estimates China's total energyjj consumption in 2014 at 3bn tonnes of oil equivalent(toe)． China's average energy consumption per head is low,at just over half the level in Japan and around one-third of that in the US．Chinese energy demand will continue to grow as the economy develops further and living standards rise． The rebalancing of China's economy in 2015-20 will alter patterns of domestic energy consumption．The residential。transport and commercial shares of energy demand will grow,while the proportion consumed by industry will decline．This reflects the increasing importance of consumption as a growth driver'as well as govemment efforts to improve energy efficiency and boost urbanisation．
