摘要
After a multi-year boom, domestic sales of all vehicles declined by 0.9% in 2013 and the outlook is for softer growth than in the past. Brazil, however, is still one of the most attractive automotive markets. In 2011 the country became the world's third-largest market for passenger and light commercial vehicles, overtaking Japan, Germany, the UK, France and Italy in the past five years. Brazil remains a long way behind the US and China (the leader).
Growth of passenger-car sales declined by 3.1% in 2013, and the outlook for the remainder of the forecast period (2014-18) is for moderate growth. An additional industrial production tax of up to 30% levied since mid-December 2011 on imports (on top of the 35% tariff) means that growth will mainly come from domestically based production, which accounted for 19% of vehicle sales in October 2013 (down from a peak of 27% in December 2011 before the new tax).
