摘要
Singapore has no indigenous energy sources, and therefore relies on imports to satisfy its energy demand. It accounted for only 1.6% of global oil consumption and 0.3% of world natural-gas consumption in 2013, according to the Statistical Review of World Energy 2014 published by a UK oil company, BP. The low global consumption shares reflect Singapore's small population of 54m.
Singapore's energy consumption per head is higher than in some energy-efficient developed economies, such as Japan, but is lower than in the US or Canada. The widespread use of air conditioners, in addition to the manufacturing sector's relatively large share of GDP, has tended to push up Singapore's energy consumption per head.
