摘要
Japan will remain one of the world's largest energy consumers during the forecast period. At an estimated 460.2m tonnes oil equivalent (toe) in 2013, Japan's total energy consumption is among the world's highest, behind that of only four other countries, namely China, the US, India and Russia.
Japan is also the world's third-largest net importer of oil after China and the US. It is almost completely dependent on imports for its oil supply. Japan is the world's leading importer of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and the second-largest coal importer.
However, Japan is also one of the world's most efficient energy users in terms of consumption. At market exchange rates, its economy is less than one-third the size of the US economy, yet its energy consumption is only about one-fifth of the US level.
