Rapid growth in the mobile‘phone and mobile Intemet segments has underpinned the strong expansion in Vietnam's telecommunications industry in recent years． Rising average personal disposable income，rapid urbanisation，expansion of the private sector and the youthfulness of the population have led to a sharp rise in demand for mobile telecoms and technology services．The Economist
Intelligence Unit expects this trend to continue as providers further expand network coverage，increase service offerings，and compete to lower costs． Vietnam had an estimated 158m mobile subscriptions in 2014；the number is expected to increase gradually during the forecast period to 159．5m in 2019．
According to atelecoms and technology research company,Pyramid Research， the strong competition in the industry that necessitates offering incentives and generally lowering tariffs means that many Vietnamese owntwo or mole SIM cards to take advantage of these deals．However,competition in the sector is fierce．with price-based competition rampant．As in several other emerging markets，most subscriptions are prepaid，and so customer loyalty is weak．
