The mobile-phone penetration rate in South Korea exceeds 100% and is likely to continue to rise steadily in 2014-18. According to the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (MISP), mobile-phone contracts numbered 55.16m in March 2014, more than the country's total population, estimated at 5042m.
The rate of customer churn in the mobile sector is relatively high, and there is strong competition between providers to supply potential subscribers with the best devices, services and prices in order to expand their customer bases.
