Domestic energy consumption is set to grow rapidly over the forecast period (2014-20). Oil and gas will remain the dominant fuels consumed domestically, with the share of natural gas in Kuwait's energy mix set to rise over the decade.
Political tensions between parliament and the government will continue to negatively affect development, including in the energy sector. Political gridlock will be particularly detrimental to the oil sector. Parliamentary committees have been formed to investigate the tendering of a number of energy projects, including the construction of a major refinery.
