Mobile-phone subscriptions are already above the regional average, and The Economist Intelligence Unit expects this to increase during the outlook period. This is because of both increases in personal income and deficiencies in the fixed-line network (only an estimated 15.3 per 100 people had access to a fixed line in 2013).
Mobile-phone subscriptions stood at an estimated 17.5m in 2013 (a penetration rate of 115.7%). Growth in mobile-phone usage and penetration is expected to ease from 2015 onwards. We expect the penetration rate to reach 124.8% (20.1m subscribers) by 2018, driven by rising disposable incomes and improved economic growth prospects.
