Robust economic growth and favourable labour conditions have supported growth in passenger car sales for many years. Sales in 2013 grew by 11.5% year on year. However, The Economist Intelligence Unit forecasts shrinkage of 9.9% in 2014, due to a weaker exchange rate, slower consumer demand growth and a more sluggish employment market. We expect a recovery thereafter, with average annual growth in 2015-19 of 4.3%.
Sales of commercial vehicles rose by 54% in 2013, but fixed investment has since contracted. We expect a fell of 94% in 2014, before sales resume in line with stronger GDP growth thereafter.
