Weak government control and a lack of effective political reforms mean that armed rebellions in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) will continue to undermine stability.
The government will seek to improve public financial management and implement structural reforms, but vested interests, corruption and bureaucratic inefficiency mean that progress will be slow.
We forecast that the current-account deficit will widen to 11.1% of GDP in 2016 as a rising trade surplus is offset by fast-growing services imports and profit repatriation by foreign companies.
