The Economist Intelligence Unit expects growth in the UAE's energy consumption in 2015-20 to average about 54％a year,outstripping annual
GDP growth of about 3．7％．Energy consumption will rise from 74．9m tonnes oil equivalent(toe)in 2014 to nearly 103m toe in 2020． Energy consumption is driven by heavily subsidised domestic prices， increasing population，and the federation‘s hot climate，which encourages airconditioning．
The household sector is the biggest consumer of electricity． The UAE will continue to rely on hydrocarbons，especially natural gas，to meet its energy needs．However,the proportion of natural gas in the energy mix is forecast to decline as other energy sources are developed．
