摘要
The Netherlands is the seventh-largest automotive market in the EU, with 3% of total EU passenger-car sales in 2014. It has fallen from sixth place in 2012, having been overtaken by Belgium.
Sales fell significantly in 2012-14 amid the economic slowdown, exacerbated by changes to tax legislation that made new cars more expensive. Amid a stabilisation in consumer confidence over recent months, the outlook for vehicle sales remains tepid, especially given a further increase in emissions-related taxation for many vehicles from January 1st 2015. Households and companies are expected to remain cautious about spending on new vehicles.
The car market is fragmented, reflecting the absence of significant national carmakers and the country's close proximity to vehicle producers in neighbouring countries. NedCar, owned by a Dutch industrial conglomerate, VDL, is the only major carmaker in the country, although there are two foreign-owned producers of commercial vehicles. The sector employs around 24,500 people.
