A minority red-green centre-left coalition government consisting of the Social Democratic Party (SAP) and the Green Party has taken office following the general election in September 2014.
Public debt remains low. The Economist Intelligence Unit forecasts that it will fall from an estimated peak just above 41% of GDP in 2014 to 38% of GDP by 2019. We forecast that the budget will achieve balance in 2018.
Economic growth was robust and broad-based at the end of 2014, when real GDP growth reached an annual average of 2.3%. We forecast an acceleration to 2.9% in 2015 and 2.8% a year in 2016-19.
