摘要
The island's economic woes, capped by widening fiscal and current-account deficits, will remain the most pressing challenge for the prime minister, Freundel Stuart, of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP).
Following tepid growth in 2013 (and stagnation in 2012), the economy will contract slightly in 2014 as public-sector spending cuts kick in, before rebounding modestly in 2015 as domestic and external conditions improve.
The Central Bank of Barbados (CBB) will continue to prioritise its defence of the fixed exchange rate (set at Bd$2:US$1) despite declining reserves, as well as keeping inflation at its current low level (1.7% in January-March).
