摘要
Healthcare spending is around 94% of GDP. The Economist Intelligence Unit believes that this will rise to 9.6% by 2019, driven by growing costs for Pharmaceuticals and care for an ageing population.
Healthcare spending growth will outpace GDP growth. We expect healthcare spending in local-currency terms to increase by an annual average of 4.2% in 2015-19, bringing total spending to €23.8bn (US$294bn) in 2019. Given slight population growth, spending per head will rise by an annual average of 3.9%.
Nevertheless, Finland will continue to spend a relatively modest proportion of GDP on healthcare compared with other OECD countries. The government introduced several measures in the 1990s to contain healthcare costs, boosting cost-effectiveness, followed by measures to contain spending on pharma-ceuticals (for example, the introduction of reference pricing in 2009).
