Abdel Fattah el-Sisi won a crushing victory in the presidential election on May 26th-28th. However, the turnout was low, and his win will only cement the rift between the authorities and the Muslim Brotherhood.The cabinet, which was appointed in June, will continue to prioritise boosting investment and creating jobs. However, amid a steady tightening of the fiscal stance, it will rely increasingly on attracting inward and private investment.
We forecast that inflation will rise to 10.9% in 2015, on the back of the reduction in subsidies in July 2014. More gradual reductions in subsidies will keep average inflation at 8.5% in 2016-19.
