The National Congress Party will maintain control in Sudan, and its head, the president, Omar al-Bashir, will also continue to dominate, although both will face increasing challenges to their rule.
Sudanese real GDP will grow by 2.3% in 2014. Growth will pick up to 3.9% in 2017 as domestic oil production rises slowly and the agricultural and gold sectors perform solidly, before falling slightly to 3.6% in 2018.
South Sudan's economic growth will slow to around 7% in 2014, from 22% in 2013, as the conflict disrupts oil production and hinders investment.
