The political scene in the next few months will be dominated by the settling-in of a new governing coalition and a further security clampdown in the wake of the March attack by terrorists on the Bardo Museum.
Efforts will be made to contain the budget deficit in 2015, but given social and economic pressures, another substantial deficit is likely. The budget deficit will then shrink until 2018-19, when an election-related uptick is likely.
We expect the current account to continue to record large, albeit declining, deficits in 2015-19 as a persistent trade deficit is only partly offset by an improving non-merchandise position in the latter half of the period.
