The devaluation of the manat in February 2015 will lead to a sharp rise in inflation this year but will relieve fiscal and balance-of-payments pressures.
International relations will continue to be closely linked to energy policy. Relations with lurkey will be strong, owing to cultural and economic ties. Russia will continue to be an important regional security player.
Following the devaluation, we expect the manat to appreciate slightly from its new value during the remainder of 2015 and in 2016. A transition to a flexible exchange-rate policy is unlikely in the forecast period.
