The South West Africa People's Organisation (SWAPO), which has governed Namibia since the country gained independence in 1990, will dominate the political scene throughout the forecast period.
After slowing to 4.4% in 2013, real GDP growth is forecast to pick up to an average of 4.8% in 2014-18, on the back of strong construction sector growth, the opening of new mines and an upturn in manufacturing activity.
After rising to an average of 7.6% of GDP in 2014-15 on the back of strong import growth, the current-account deficit will narrow to 4.6% of GDP in 2018, as new mines come on stream and global minerals prices strengthen.
