Despite low approval ratings, The Economist Intelligence Unit expects the grand coalition government of the centre-right Austrian People's Party (OVP) and the centre-left Social Democratic Party (SPO) to serve its full term to 2018.
The HGAA costs will add significantly to public debt, which will jump to the equivalent of around 80% of GDP in 2014. Thereafter it will fell slightly, but will remain above 76% of annual output at the end of the forecast period.
We expect the current-account surplus to remain healthy, averaging 2.7% of GDP in 2014-18 as a rise in imports is offset by a large service account surplus.
