Having won national polls on October 15th 2014, the ruling Frente de Libertacjio de Mocambique (Frelimo), will remain dominant in 2015-19.
The fiscal deficit will narrow from an estimated 10% of GDP in 2014 to 7.3% of GDP in 2018 as brisk growth and rising mining royalties more than offset falling aid and rising expenditure. It will edge up in the 2019 election year.
Imports for coal and gas investments will keep the current-account deficit wide. However, driven by rising coal exports and falling oil prices, the deficit will ease from an estimated 37.1% of GDP in 2014 to 31.6% of GDP in 2019.
