前言
This book presents contributions drawn from a broader set of papers concerning a wide range of scientific and technological areas covered by AITeM (the Italian Manufacturing Association).
In particular, the first part, AITeM Young Researcher Award 2025, is written by young AITeM associates: their contributions overall reflect the wide nature of the research in manufacturing and, furthermore, highlights the most recent innovations and technologies proposed and discussed within the international scientific community. In this way, emerging technologies and established interdisciplinary connections with different technological areas are explored to advance the state of the art.
Additive manufacturing technologies, in particular, are shown to significantly impact not only simple product fabrication but also the development of a complex and intensely interconnected value creation processes ecosystem pursuing high-value-added products to compete globally.
In the book, the following topics are addressed: additive manufacturing, materials processing technology, assembly, disassembly and circular economy, manufacturing systems design and management, quality engineering and production metrology, process and system simulation, optimization and digital manufacturing.
An Editorial Committee composed by Prof. Livan Fratini, Universita di Palermo (President), Prof. Wilma Polini, Universita di Cassino, Prof. Pierpaolo Carlone, Universita di Salerno, Prof. Aldo Attanasio, Universita di Brescia, Prof. Marco Sorgato, Universita di Padova, Prof. Paolo Parenti, Politecnico di Milano, Prof. Flaviana Calignano, Politecnico di Torino, Eng. Olivier Terzo, Fondazione Links, Eng. Ciro Sinagra, Laminazione Sottile S.p.A. peer reviewed and selected ten contributions among 22 papers proposed for the Award.
The second part, White Papers, includes three contributions on some emerging trends in manufacturing research. The contributions have been prepared by working groups that have formed around strategic research topics in the manufacturing sector, often related to emerging applications: adaptive processes for the manufacturing of welded profiles and tubes, sustainable and innovative production processes for composite materials, machining for aerospace. The papers here published aim to provide an overview of the new challenges posed by these frontier areas, demonstrating how only through the multidisciplinary and highly innovative approach that our community offers can these challenges be successfully addressed.
The White Papers underwent a reviewing process led by Prof. Luigi Maria Galantucci from the Politecnico di Bari to ensure their compliance with AITeM standards and to make their structure consistent.
